devastating

I worked all afternoon from lunch yesterday so didnt really see any tv or anything, but mum came round last night and mentioned about the bad fires in victoria, but that was all I heard about them. When I got up this morning I turned on the TV to watch while I drank my coffee, and it heard the news about the devastating fires in vic, and that 25 people had perished.I was stunned, at such horrific news and the footage I seen.
Tonight at the last update I heard the death toll was up to 84[and more expected] and over 700 homes lost, and 26 fires still burning.Such a massive tradgedy.
Cant help but cry every time I see the news, and my heart goes out to all who have been affected.
I Have such admiration and gratitude for all the volunters who are involved.
I read this on one of the forums concerning the bushfires.

The Firemans prayer
When I am called to duty,
God, where ever flames may rage give me the strength to save some life,
Whatever be its age.
Help me embrace a little child before it is too late;
Or save an older person from the horror of that Fate.
Enable me to be alert,
And hear the weakest shout,
And quickly and efficiently to put the fire out.
I want to fill my calling and to give the best in me;
To guard my every neighbour and protect his property
And if, according to your will I have to give my life;
Please bless with your protecting hand
My children and my wife.-

it is truly terrible isn't it.
As awful as the Wangary fire was here, its' significance pales compared to Victoria's fires.
I too didnt know anything about it until I read it in a thread that one of my forum friends posted today.
I have been thinking of her alot since then and keeping tabs on her area.
makes u want to squeeze your kids a little bit longer when they hug you at bed time doesn't it.

Its Monday morning and Ive woken to the news that the toll is now 108. and it could be more.
This is so horrendous.
The horror stories that are coming from that area are mind numbing.
A few tears were shed here this morning. Horrific.

It's very sad isn't it ! :(

Just makes you even more aware of how precious life is !

The Media upset me tho with how they go on about it, and are constantly in the victim faces all the time!

I can't stop crying every time I see it on tv. I'm doing what I can in the way of donations.

Some very courageous and inspiring people over there battling such a terrifying ordeal.
